Dr Ahmed Mirza Jamil conceived a unique system of ligatures which led to the successful invention of
computerized Urdu calligraphy named Noori Nastaliq.
Replacing the outmoded system of joints used in type-setting of Urdu and thereby retaining the
elegance and beauty of the written language with Nastaliq Script.
Each ligature was calligraphically designed by Mr Ahmed Mirza Jamil so as to make it suitable for
feeding it into the memory of a Computer.
He has been awarded with TAMGHA-I-IMTIAZ by Government of Pakistan in 1982.
Mr Ahmed Mirza Jamil is the owner of the Noori Nastaliq typeface. Agfa Monotype Corporation holds
copyright to the Noori Nastaliq digital font data. Noori Nastaliq is a trademark of The Monotype
Corporation.
